Skye Destinations: Riviera Retreat

We're going for all the luxury of a resort vacation in this collection of styles inspired by the French Riviera. From museum-hopping to cocktails on the terrace, classic sophistication is the name of the game, even in warm weather.

Black and white make up most of this traditional European vacation-wear palette. But they work best when paired with a strong bright hue with black and white accents, like Skye's Nostalgia swimwear collection, which features a print of antique floral etchings on solid background.

Pair Nostalgia with a posh black leather handbag, gold accessories and classic white blazer. Très chic!

Fashion Trend Report: Serape, Ikat and Native-Inspired Motifs

It's no surprise that Ikat, serape, Navajo and other native-inspired motifs are all the rage this spring. From tribal-inspired headpieces in fashion editorials to modern interpretations of traditional patterns in clothing and accessories, the Skye design team did some visual digging before designing our "El Dorado" swim collection.

On and off the runway we've seen interpretations of Ikat in all its forms from beaded evening-wear to more casual resort collections.

Both celebrities and fashionistas have been seen wearing tribal-inspired looks. As seen above, actress Ashley Tisdale is spotted in an Ikat maxi dress by All Saints.

Skye Destinations: Set Sail

All aboard for another season of sailing, complete with sunning on the deck and brunch at the pier.

We've got the wind in our sails with this collection of all things nautical, from open-toe espadrilles to Skye's sailor-inspired Chain Reaction swimwear collection, in crisp navy, red and white.

Look ship-shape by pairing graphic, printed Chain Reaction with high-waisted nautical shorts and roped or linked accessories, like a heavy gold chain necklace or rope belt. Add a cute neckerchief, and it's smooth sailing from there on in.

Skye Destinations: A Day at the Beach

What could be more fun than a beachside getaway? Pack your flip-flops and sunscreen, and throw on a wide-brimmed hat for some much needed relief.

We've put together some of our favorite beach essentials in a look that's ready for lazing in the sand or collecting seashells.

Drawing on the greens and aquas of the ocean's clear waters, the Skye Skinz collection takes this year's favorite animal print – snakeskin – to swimwear.

Pair Skinz with a light, sandy neutral, like starfish or sand dollar, and add some pop with coral accents and accessories.

Fashion Trend Report: Orange is all the Rage

When you want a color that's both fresh and warm, only one springs to mind. It's no surprise then that orange has emerged as the “it” color for spring and summer 2012.

While the Pantone Color Institute proclaimed Tangerine Tango as the upcoming seasons' top color choice, almost every couturier under the sun has included some variation of this citrus tone to their most recent collections.

Orange hues dominated Michael Kors' spring 2012 collection, while the color has eclipsed pink this year as the go-to hue for women in designs from Sonia Rykiel, Salvatore Ferragamo, Dior, and more.

Reminiscent of summer sunsets, we feel this zesty color could not be more welcome anywhere than in swimwear. And, accordingly Skye has adopted the orange rage in a number of our most recent collections – both in prints like Luxe and Nostalgia, as well as in our So Soft Solids.

Hot weather calls for a hot color, and a refreshing dose of citrus is just what you need on those long, lazy, beachside days of summer.

Fashion Trend Report: Simply Stripes

With the introduction of our latest prints from Skye, we're seeing a big return to simple classics this year. And what could be more timelessly stylish than simple stripes?

Headlining recent runway collections from Prada, Moschino, and Sonia Rykiel, strong, streamlined stripes pack as much of a punch today as they did decades ago, when Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn adopted this flattering print.

Crisp and clean, yet bold and playful, our new brightly striped print collection, Luxe adds fresh color to this nautical-inspired motif.

Showcasing some of the season's hottest colors, like Seafoam and Flamingo, you'll find Luxe a bright alternative to navy and red, though you can of course get this look in classic black and white.

Either way, these simple striped suits are a bold and striking way to wear this ultra flattering and of-the-moment trend.

Resort season is back in black

Resort season is upon us, and what better way to outfit yourself for that classic getaway than with a timeless vacation wardrobe based on the ultimate in simple sophistication – black.

Whether it's yachting, lounging by the bay, or shopping the local markets, nothing beats the one color that has spelt effortless refinement for as long as we can remember.

This look was the basis for Grace Kelly's iconic vacation wardrobe in the 1955 classic heist film 'To Catch a Thief,' where Princess Grace accessorized a solid black swimsuit and cover-up with a wide-brimmed hat, and cat-eye sunglasses.

And the classic black swimsuit graced yet another memorable beach scene of filmdom for Deborah Kerr's steamy tryst with Burt Lancaster in 1953's 'From Here to Eternity.'

The simplicity of this quintessentially haute aesthetic is just one of many in Skye's collection of So Soft Solids, a line of styles and cuts in signature solid colors.

And that same timeless chic is the inspiration for other Skye resort essentials, like the Taylor Cover Up, with its charming mediterranean influences, or the posh Muse Cover up.

So whatever your destination this resort season, capture the everlasting panache of cinema legends and bon-vivants all in black – because high style has never been so simple.

Fashion Trend Report: Ahoy, Sailor!

Whether preppy or mod, nautical style is a crisp and classic element of women's fashion.

Sailor style has been as much for the ladies as it has for the gents, going as far back as the 40s, when pin-ups started featuring bombshells in stripes and anchors. And the trend lives on today.

The feminine appropriation of nautical wear was further solidified two decades later, when Jacqueline Kennedy donned red and navy on the starboard side of the presidential yacht. How patriotic!

The look has since become a clean-cut hallmark of design houses like Jean-Paul Gaultier, and this season is no exception, with resort collections from the likes of Yves Saint Laurent and The Row hoisting sail with this signature sea-faring look.

Above: Selections from The Row's Resort 2012 collection heavily inspired by nautical stripes, cuts and colors

This classic “anchors aweigh” aesthetic proved the inspiration for the Skye's “Chain Reaction” collection, with styles featuring a mod, navy print of interlocking chains and red accents.

As timeless as it is tidy, the nautical look promises to endure as a warm weather and vacation-wear favorite for years to come, with nothing but smooth sailing on the horizon.

Model Talk: Interview with Cathy K

If you’ve been following us online, or have seen our ads while flipping through your favorite magazines, you’ve most likely seen Cathy, the beautiful yet down-to-earth swimwear & fashion model who appears in our 2011 & 2012 collection campaigns.

As the face and body of the Skye Swimwear brand, we thought it fitting to introduce you to the Montreal-based model and booker who makes looking good seem oh-so-effortless.

We caught up with Cathy this weekend to get her thoughts on modeling, dating, and how to keep looking and feeling great.

Skye: When you were a young girl, before you started modeling, what was your perception of models and the fashion industry as a whole?

Cathy: I thought it looked very glamorous. Models wore beautiful creations by top designers and traveled the globe in private jets with Johnny Depp. It looked like an easy way to make a living.

Above: Skye 2011 campaign shoot and behind-the-scenes pic

Skye: How has your attitude changed about modeling after years in the business?

Cathy: I've learned that it's a lot of hard work! It's not all glitz and glamor. It's early call times and a ton of traveling to places where you don't understand the language. And because the product you are selling is yourself, you need to be at your best at all times. You cant be grumpy, or a diva. It's a job just like any else and you have to stay professional at all times.

Skye: That sounds pretty stressful…What do you do to relax?

Cathy: Yoga! Nothing clears your mind faster and relaxes the body better. It really helps to get you in tune with yourself.

Skye: Nature obviously blessed you with a fantastic body, but you're lifestyle must contribute to how great you look. What advice would you give to women who want to stay fit but don't have hours to spend in the gym every week?

Cathy: Small things like taking the stairs at work instead of the elevator or biking to the office instead of driving are just some of the ways to get more physical. Try eating more protein and ditching the carbs. Skipping the bread basket at dinner might sound small, but every bit counts!

Skye: Most women, especially beautiful women, have trouble with the idea of aging because society has placed such a strong emphasis on things like youth and beauty. How do you feel about this and the generally accepted belief that men age better than women?

Cathy: I cant say I'm a huge fan of the concept of aging myself, but I do see models like Christy Turlington and Claudia Shiffer making huge comebacks in the industry and looking flawless, so I'm hoping to follow in those footsteps as gracefully as possible by keeping wrinkles at bay with the right skin regimes and healthy eating. I'd rather age tastefully than end up as a plastic Benjamin Button!

Skye: Is swimsuit shopping as terrifying for you as it is for 99% of the female population?

Cathy: Swimsuit shopping is daunting for everyone! But there are so many styles available now that you can find a look to mask just about any flaw. Remember to highlight your best feature and no one will notice the rest!

Skye: Are there any stereotypes about models that you would like to set straight?

Cathy: Actually, many of the stereotypes are true! [laughs] But I've met a lot of amazing people in my career and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Skye: If you could go on a date with any celebrity, who would it be and where would you go?

Cathy: I'd go surfing with Kelly Slater!

Skye: Well if anyone has a chance, you probably do! [laugh] Thanks for the chat!
